What can we learn about the differences between Canadian and American paralegals? Joseph Basaran takes us on a journey through this topic, highlighting Ontario paralegals and those in other provinces, the history of paralegals in Ontario, the Law Society of Upper Canada, lawyers in Canada, the Canadian political system, and the Canadian justice system.
Your Instructor: Joseph Basaran
Mr. Basaran attended Everest College of Toronto from 2007 to 2008 where he
received a diploma with honours in Paralegal Studies and a perfect attendance
certificate. During his study, Toronto Police Service legal services branch and a
private law firm had accepted Joseph as a student paralegal in order to complete
his internship. Joseph served at the Toronto Police Service legal department as
legal researcher and assisted the department with civil litigation related issues.
In 2008, Joseph successfully passed his paralegal licensing examination and become one of the first licensed paralegals in Ontario. In January 2009, Mr. Basaran established his own legal firm called the Paralegal Office of Joseph Basaran in Toronto and represented his respectful Clients under the permitted scope of area of practice established by the Law Society of Upper Canada.
In 2010, Everest College offered Joseph a position as a paralegal instructor to teach paralegal program in Toronto. Joseph continues teaching law at career colleges in Ontario since then with high success rate.
Currently, Joseph is continuing his academic education at York University in Law and Society discipline and upon completion, he is aiming to apply for his LLM (Master of Laws). In addition, Mr. Basaran has extensive law enforcement background for over nine years with government and private security agencies.
